A Destination for Well-being

Between ocean and fynbos, earth and open sky, between vision and action, thought and manifestation, lies The Space Between. An escape within a wild natural setting; a mini-retreat on the doorstep of central Plettenberg Bay; it is a place in which to pause, play, immerse yourself and take a deep breath.

Our concept was born from the need to create a dedicated home for various creative and wellness modalities. Here, each individual is supported to connect to your inner knowing— your deep self. It is a space that nurtures teachers, therapists and students alike, while igniting the sparks of connection between a growing community of people, and with the surrounding landscape.

Our Journey So Far

2017

THE SPACE BETWEEN FOUNDERS

The envisioning process of creating a wellness space began, with talks between Jean, Tina and Eve. They began to search for the right venue.

When the devastating Plett fires burnt the invasive alien growth to ashes on a coastal farm near the airport, the potential of the land was revealed.

2018

FIRST YEAR

Jean purchased that property, which is now Tanamoya Farm, home of The Space Between in October.

During the summer solstice of 2018, Tina curated the first Blissfest – a yoga festival on the land, offering yoga classes, movement, therapies and live music in a taste of things to come.

Tina Hopff also known under her spiritual name Sanjeet Prakash Kaur, is a yogi, a seeker of truth, a Kundalini Yoga teacher.

On her 2014 pilgrimage to Mount Kailash, under the wings of Yogi and mystic Sadhguru, Tina keenly felt her calling to become a Kundalini Yoga teacher.

This journey led her to the Mother Ashram of Yogi Bhajan in Española, New Mexico, where she trained to become a KRI qualified Kundalini Yoga Teacher. Among her mentors and teachers were Nirvair Singh Khalsa, Sat Purkh Kaur Khalsa, Sat Kaur Khalsa and Jai Dev Singh. Before Tina turned to Kundalini Yoga she was an avid Hatha Yoga practitioner with over 20 years of experience.

In 2018 Tina founded the BlissFest, which is an annual yoga festival in Plettenberg Bay on the farm of The Space Between.

Eve Cunard

HATHA YOGA & AERIAL YOGA

eve-768x768.png

Eve began attending yoga classes at age 19. While at university in Brighton, England, she was swept up by the inspirational yoga of Vanda Scaravelli.

This led Eve to complete her BTEC Yoga Teacher Training at Morley College in London in 2003. After returning to South Africa in 2005, Eve taught regular yoga classes in Storms River and then in Plettenberg Bay.

She has facilitated various workshops and retreats and has worked therapeutically one-on-one with students of all ages. In recent years Eve has been influenced by the Feldenkrais Method and her own anatomy studies, practice and experimentation.

In 2016 Eve completed her Aerial Yoga teacher training and continues to turn her students’ worlds upside-down with her new passion. She remains entranced by the harmony of science and creativity that is yoga and has now been teaching for almost 20 years.

Richi Lubner

SACRED SUNDAYS &Qi GONG

rich-l-768x768.png

In 1994 Richi moved to Australia after pursuing a professional tennis career on the ATP World tour. As destiny would have it, in that same year he discovered his teacher Master Xie Shoude from the Academy of Chi Advancement. This was to become the beginning of an incredible journey of almost 20 years of extensive training and discovery in the ancient alchemy, energy and self-mastery of Tai Chi, Qigong and Ying Yang Bhaguazhan.

Richi is not a self-proclaimed guru or master, but simply a fellow spiritual aspirant who loves to share his experiences and grow together with others, for their benefit.

Richi shares a holistic program (mind, body and spirit) that is focused around his personal journey, the challenges of learning to let go on many levels and yield to “what is”. This starts at body level and aims at empowering YOU to discover what may be blocking or inhibiting your natural flow. Then, through self-awareness and letting go, the release/relief can be found. The movements are purposefully gentle and slow, so as to invite you to go deep within, while at the same time increasing your vital force (chi) and energetic shield. Whilst this practice is a martial art, the focus is not on fighting skills but rather on leaning towards the cultivation of your inherent energy and life force.

“Learn to use the softness to overcome the firmness”.

Emma Brown

PILATES

emma-768x768.png

Emma fell in love with movement in the form of ballet and modern dance from the age of 5. Throughout school and university she played a variety of sports, and discovered a passion for Pilates and yoga in her early twenties.

In 2019 Emma completed the Merrithew (STOTT) Pilates Intensive Mat and Total Barre Level 1 Foundation courses. She loves teaching much more than she expected to, and especially loves seeing positive changes in people.

Her classes alternate between athletic for strength and mobility, cardio- pilates – fusion for fitness and fun!

Sarah Lock

SPORTS & THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE

Sarah Lock.heic

Sarah Lock graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic and Sports Massage in New Zealand in 2013. Her studies focused on finding the root cause of pain or dysfunction in the musculoskeletal system. This increases the chance of resolving the issue rather than continually treating symptoms.

Sarah enjoys helping anyone who is in any kind of discomfort, be it athletes in training or clients with stress-related tension. The session begins with an initial assessment, followed by a treatment combining trigger point therapy, Swedish and sports massage techniques. Stretching and strengthening exercises may also be given if required to aid the recovery process.

Lizl Pretorius

NIA DANCE

Lizl Pretorius.jpeg

Having trained under the Royal Academy of Dance from the age of 5 and matriculating from the National School of Arts in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, Lizl still took to the stage as performing artist in her 40’s. However, at age 44, she hung up her ballet shoes, devastated by the thought that her body was no longer willing or able to dance due to pain.

Nevertheless, after Lizl was introduced to the Nia Technique in Cape Town, she blissfully took the leap over to training and completing her White Belt in 2021 under the founder of Studio Kairos, and 2nd Degree Black Belt teacher, Susan Sloan. Lizl has been facilitating Classic Nia classes collectively for two years in Hout Bay, Observatory and Knysna, and is excited to be teaching pop-up classes at The Space Between.

Lizl says, ‘Your reason for NOT moving might be a lack of confidence, energy, pain, trauma, age, weight —the list goes on, and on. I have learnt through Nia that our bodies want to move in uninhibited, holistic ways….one barefoot step at a time, with absolutely no previous experience required. Come as you are, co- ordinated or not; your entire being will thank you for it.’
